National Canadian Film Day Returns with Expanded Global Reach on April 15

The annual celebration of Canadian cinema, National Canadian Film Day, is set to return on April 15, 2026, with its most ambitious international program to date. This year's event will feature a remarkable 150 screenings across 49 countries worldwide, representing a substantial 62 percent increase in global participation compared to the previous year. The theme "Let's Dream Together" reflects a growing international interest in Canadian stories and a renewed desire for cultural connection.

Unprecedented International Presence

In partnership with Global Affairs Canada and numerous international film festivals and cultural organizations, Canadian Film Day will reach audiences in nearly 50 nations. This expansion demonstrates the increasing global appreciation for Canadian cinematic storytelling and represents the most extensive international footprint in the event's history. Organizers have created an interactive map on their official website showing every participating location and country.

Extensive Domestic Programming

Within Canada, the celebration will be equally comprehensive with 2,000 free screenings scheduled across every province and territory. These events will showcase the diversity of Canadian filmmaking through premieres, sneak previews, and screenings of 2026 Canadian Screen Award nominees. A distinguished "Dream Team" of 51 prominent Canadians, including literary icon Margaret Atwood, comedian Rick Mercer, and filmmakers Sarah Polley and Atom Egoyan, has curated a special selection of must-see films for the occasion.
