Designer Amanda Aerin on Creating Welcoming, Colourful Homes

Amanda Aerin, a celebrated Canadian designer and lifestyle expert known for her bold style and imaginative approach to design, currently hosts the hit TV show Find My Country Home which airs internationally. She believes that a home should feel safe — a place of respite, comfort, and restoration from the outside world.

Design Philosophy

Her style effortlessly layers colour, pattern, and texture to create spaces that feel both fresh and timeless, often incorporating unexpected details and distinctive, one-of-a-kind pieces. "Every home needs colour — it's what brings energy, personality, and emotion into a space. Even in the most neutral palette, colour adds depth, warmth, and a sense of individuality that makes a home feel truly alive and lived in," says Aerin.

Her first design experience came at age 11 when her mother gifted her $200 to decorate her bedroom. She chose turquoise and purple, a bold combination at the time. Today, she works with a highly discerning clientele who value rich colour palettes, dynamic materials, and thoughtfully considered luxury amenities.

Current Projects

Her current projects include residences at The Ritz-Carlton Toronto, bespoke interiors at Four Seasons Resort Bahamas, and a beautiful private estate in King City, Ontario. "The best part of my job is witnessing my clients' energy transform once they see our design presentation. There's a real moment of transformation — excitement builds, ideas spark, and a sense of anticipation takes over," she explains.

Home Features

Aerin describes her own home as welcoming and colourful. She moved into a heritage home during COVID-19, initially planning a short stay, but fell in love with the neighbourhood. The 2,800-square-foot, 80-year-old house features a generous backyard and an indoor wood-burning fireplace, both central to how she lives and enjoys the space.

She was attracted to the house even though it was practically abandoned and neighbours called it the haunted house. "I saw the potential, though, and I have a love and appreciation for character homes, so I just had to have 'her'," she says.

Personal Style

Her personal decorating style is deeply rooted in classic details. Being Parisian French, she feels that sense of style is inherently part of who she is, yet there is always a playful layer woven through colour, texture, and unexpected art. "There is no single way to define an Amanda Aerin interior — it is more a lifestyle and a feeling," she notes.

Items she can't live without include personal travel mementos and art that tells a story. Weekends at home find her rearranging coffee table displays, refreshing spaces with small edits, or hosting intimate dinner parties. When slowing down, she curls up in front of the fire with prosecco in hand.

If her walls could talk, she jokes they would say, "Stop repainting me."
