Calgary prepares to honour its military heroes as Remembrance Day approaches on Tuesday, November 11, 2025. The statutory holiday will see numerous memorial events across the city while many services and businesses operate with adjusted hours.
Major Memorial Ceremonies and Events
The city offers several meaningful ways to pay respects to fallen soldiers. The Field of Crosses along Memorial Drive presents a powerful visual tribute with 3,620 crosses displayed from November 1 through Remembrance Day. On the eve of November 11, lanterns will illuminate the crosses from sunset until sunrise. A televised memorial ceremony begins at 10:10 a.m. on Remembrance Day, with Memorial Drive closing at 9 a.m. in front of the display.
At The Military Museums, ceremonies commence at 10:45 a.m. featuring the Last Post, two minutes of silence, and wreath-laying. Following the service, the museum opens with admission by donation, and visitors can lay poppies at the Eternal Flame monument.
The Hangar Flight Museum hosts a special service at the historic helicopter landing area, once a Second World War parade square. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., with seating requested by 10:15 a.m. for the 10:30 a.m. ceremony. Admission is by cash donation through partnership with Eagle Copters and Alpine Helicopters.
Special Commemorative Activities
CPKC continues its tradition of honouring veterans at Memorial Square, located at 7550 Ogden Dale Rd. S.E. The ceremony includes a moment of silence at 11 a.m. precisely, followed by a train whistle at 11:02 a.m. Refreshments will be served from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Lougheed House pays special tribute to Calgary's Canadian Women's Army Corps (CWAC) with a display highlighting their Second World War contributions. The exhibition runs November 7-9 during regular museum hours, complemented by the "Our Women in Khaki" guided tour on November 8 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Community Observances and Practical Information
The Royal Canadian Legion coordinates ceremonies throughout Alberta, including locations at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium, Cochrane Cenotaph, and various Legion branches. Residents can visit the Legion website to find ceremonies in their neighborhood.
As Calgary pauses to remember, residents should note that city services and businesses will operate with modified schedules. The holiday provides an opportunity for Calgarians to reflect on the sacrifices made by armed forces members who died in the line of duty.
