John Oliver made sure his jokes about President Donald Trump's disastrous Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovations were just as filthy as the landmark itself during Sunday's episode of 'Last Week Tonight.'
The comic couldn't help but snicker at the fact that yet another one of the president's 'pet projects' had gone south as he savaged the revamp as an 'absolute train wreck.'
Oliver's Gross-Out Humor
After rolling a clip of a 'Today' show interview with a woman side-eyeing the pool while describing it as glaringly green and saying it 'smells really bad,' Oliver plunged into full gross-out mode.
'It's never a great sign when the feedback for your national monument sounds exactly like a review for sex with the Grinch: green, smelly, good communicator though — three stars,' he jeered.
The Failed Renovation
Despite pouring upwards of $15 million into upgrades like a slick 'American flag blue' paint job and updated filtration features, the Washington, D.C., water feature now seems to be in worse shape than ever. Almost immediately after its makeover wrapped early this month, the pool's new blue bottom lining began to crack and three dead ducks were found in it, all while its stubborn algae bloom continued to persist.
Trump's Response
Thin-skinned as ever, Trump baselessly blamed the mess on 'radical left vandals,' a 'sabotage conspiracy' that Oliver called 'laughably weak.' Amid the fallout from his failed refurbishment, Trump ordered the pool to be fenced off from the public and patrolled by the National Guard.
