Theatre Calgary Warns of Inflated Ticket Resale Prices

Theatre Calgary is cautioning theatre-goers to avoid secondary ticket sites that are offering tickets to its upcoming production of Come From Away at what the company describes as "extraordinarily high" prices.

In an email advisory, the theatre company stated that third-party resellers are listing tickets for the show at significantly inflated prices. Theatre Calgary emphasized that it is not affiliated with these sellers and cannot guarantee the validity of tickets purchased outside of its official website or Box Office.

Christopher Loach, Theatre Calgary's director of media relations, confirmed that while tickets are still available for as low as $49, some are being listed on secondary sites for more than $700. He noted that one patron paid around $400 for a pair of tickets, which is well above the official price range of $49 to $130.

"We don't want anybody paying more than they need to, and we cannot guarantee the validity of any tickets purchased on a secondary site," Loach said. He added that resale pricing is rarely an issue for Theatre Calgary shows but becomes more common with high-profile productions that have Broadway connections.

"We're just trying to make sure that people don't go to the wrong place to buy tickets," Loach said. "We certainly don't want people to think that it should cost that much to go to a Theatre Calgary show."

Theatre Calgary advises avoiding tickets priced between $400 and $800, as well as those listed in U.S. dollars or not on the official ticketing page. The company encourages patrons to purchase tickets directly through its website or by calling the box office at 403-294-7447. Tickets remain available for many performance dates.

Come From Away opens on Friday and runs until June 27 at the Max Bell Theatre.
