Reality television star Kourtney Kardashian Barker is opening up about the personal challenges she faced when she first became a mother at age 30, contrasting that experience with her more recent pregnancy in her mid-40s.
Finding Her Way Without a Guide
During the latest episode of her family's Hulu series, "The Kardashians," the 46-year-old reflected on the birth of her now 15-year-old son, Mason. Kardashian Barker confessed she felt a lack of guidance and hadn't consulted any parenting books beforehand. Her approach was driven purely by instinct. "When I was 30, and I had Mason, nobody told me what to do," she said in a confessional. "The way that I felt, my maternal instinct, was to do attachment parenting."
A More Intentional Path with Later Children
The mother of four explained that her mindset shifted before the arrival of her daughter, Penelope, in 2012. She became "more intentional," actively reading an attachment parenting book to inform her choices. Kardashian Barker also touched on the evolution of her career balance, noting that while she felt compelled to work after Penelope's birth, her situation has changed. "Now, I have the option not to work, and I feel grateful to be able to find what I connect to," she shared in the November 27 episode.
Kardashian Barker shares her youngest child, 2-year-old son Rocky, with her husband, Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Her family also includes three children from her previous relationship with Scott Disick: Mason, Penelope, and Reign. Travis Barker has two children, Landon and Alabama, from his previous marriage to Shanna Moakler.
Responding to Critics of Her Late Pregnancy
The Poosh founder also addressed the online criticism she faced for becoming pregnant with Rocky at age 44. In an interview with Vanity Fair Italia in October 2023, she dismissed the negativity from internet trolls. "Those comments don't affect me," she stated firmly. "To those who do them, I just say: How dare you question God's plan?"
She revealed that the pregnancy was a surprise, occurring a year after the couple had stopped trying with assisted fertilization. More recently, in August of this year, Kardashian Barker humorously shut down new rumors that she was expecting again. Under a family vacation photo on Instagram, a user commented, "Rumors have it that you're pregnant Kourtney." Her witty reply? "Eating pancakes," she wrote, adding, "and jumping off cliffs."
