Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck may be on good terms following their divorce, but that does not mean she wanted his name to stay permanently etched on her body. The singer and actress recently showcased a newly modified tattoo that once honored her former husband.
Memorial Day Reveal
The On the Floor singer celebrated Memorial Day with her favorite people and shared photos from the holiday on Instagram. Many of the images featured Lopez in a sexy white bikini, lounging poolside with a cocktail. She captioned the post: "Spending the day with the people I love. Happy Memorial Day everybody."
Among the plethora of bikini pictures was one snapshot that showed Lopez, 56, hugging her son Max, 18. Wearing a white, flowy, backless maxi dress, her side was exposed, revealing a tattoo that was once a tribute to Affleck but has since been updated.
The Original Tattoo
In February 2023, the Hustlers actress revealed she had gotten a tattoo in honor of their love and their first Valentine's Day as a married couple. The design was an infinity symbol with "Jennifer" and "Ben" written in cursive, with an arrow going through the middle. It sat above her ribcage. She captioned a since-deleted Instagram post: "Commitment. Happy Valentine's Day my love."
Affleck had a similar design featuring two arrows crossing one another, with the letter J above the crossed arrows and the letter B below.
Relationship Timeline
Lopez and Affleck, known collectively as Bennifer, met in 2002 while filming the movie Gigli. They were engaged by November of that year but broke up in January 2004. Seventeen years later, they found their way back to each other and began dating again in April 2021, reviving Bennifer 2.0. The couple got engaged in April 2022 and married that July, but split for good two years later. Their divorce was finalized in January 2025.
Prior to her marriage to Affleck, Lopez was married to Ojani Noa, Cris Judd, and Marc Anthony, with whom she shares twins Max and Emme.
Reflections on Love
Despite her marriages, Lopez appeared on The Howard Stern Show and admitted she has never felt truly loved. "I learned that it's not that I'm not lovable, it's that they're not capable. They don't have it in them," she said of her high-profile relationships. "They need to appreciate the little person inside of them. They need to love them."
During an October 2024 conversation for Interview magazine, Lopez admitted to comedian Nikki Glaser that she has feelings of being lonely but was also ready to be on her own again. "For people who are romantics and love being in relationships and want to grow old with somebody, we think, 'I have to have that to be whole and happy,'" Lopez said. "And you don't."
