President Donald Trump still had Stephen Colbert on his mind Friday evening, even after going on a Truth Social victory lap over the ending of “The Late Show.” In an AI-generated video posted to his website, Trump can be seen putting Colbert in a trash can before breaking into a dance while “YMCA” plays.
The post came roughly 17 hours after the president made a middle-of-the-night victory lap for bumping the popular Colbert from late night television. “Colbert is finally finished at CBS,” Trump wrote after the conclusion of Colbert’s final show. “Amazing that he lasted so long! No talent, no ratings, no life. He was like a dead person.”
Colbert exits the primetime spot at No.1 and consistently held a 2.7 million average viewership during the first quarter of the year, according to Forbes. Still, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he believes “You could take any person off of the street and they would be better than this total jerk. Thank goodness he’s finally gone!”
Trump still had more to say on Friday morning, when he wrote: “Stephen Colbert’s firing from CBS was the “Beginning of the End” for untalented, nasty, highly overpaid, not funny, and very poorly rated Late Night Television Hosts. Others, of even less talent, to soon follow. May they all Rest in Peace!”
During his final episode Thursday night, Colbert never mentioned Trump by name. Instead, he only made one subtle reference about the president during his interview with Paul McCartney. While discussing performing in the same theater in 1964 for the Beatles’ iconic first U.S. television performance on “The Ed Sullivan Show,” McCartney pointed to one difference from when the band would appear on British TV. “We’d gotten used to a little bit of makeup in England,” he said. “But we went down there, and the girls put makeup on us, and it was like bright orange.”
“That’s very popular in certain circles these days,” Colbert joked. “We set a trend,” McCartney said. “Now we know where it started!” Colbert said. “Thanks a lot, Paul McCartney!”
