"The View" co-host Sunny Hostin rebuked President Donald Trump for "smirking" at an insult hurled at former first lady Michelle Obama during the White House's UFC Freedom 250 event on Sunday evening.
"I do want to address the derogatory slur made about the former first lady, Michelle Obama, because I think it's important to address," Hostin began on Monday's episode of "The View."
UFC heavyweight fighter Josh Hokit made the disparaging remarks about Obama after winning a fight at the event, telling UFC commentator Joe Rogan on the White House lawn, "Michelle Obama is a man! Am I right, America?"
Trump's UFC Freedom 250 event commemorated the 250th anniversary of the United States while concurrently celebrating his 80th birthday.
Hostin continued, "I think the reason that it's important is because, for a long time — and the roots are in slavery — Black women have been slurred and made to feel that they were unattractive, made to feel that they were masculine, made to feel that they were — they didn't have the femininity that a white woman would have."
Arguing that the "intersectionality between racism and sexism" was "on full display at the White House" on Sunday night, she called out Trump for smirking and not addressing Hokit's disgusting remarks. She also blasted the event's crowd for laughing.
"That is beneath the dignity of the office of the president of the United States, and it's beneath the dignity of the American people," Hostin added as the audience clapped in response.
Hostin's co-host Ana Navarro chimed in, revealing that she "didn't watch one second of that UFC fight" because, in her opinion, it "does not celebrate America's 250th anniversary. That does not signify America's best values."
Navarro then argued that Trump is "so obsessed with the Obamas" and claimed that the former first couple "live rent-free" in the president's head. Navarro also told the audience that she plans on celebrating America's 250th birthday by voting against the Republicans in the 2026 midterms before accusing them of "putting no accountability on this administration."
Neither Trump nor Rogan have publicly denounced Hokit's remarks about Obama. UFC head Dana White reacted to the fighter's insult in a text message to Time magazine.
"I understand that the Obama's are public figures but I'm completely against saying nasty and false things about people's families," White told the outlet. "Everyone knows my position on free speech but I hate that kind of nonsense."
White House spokesperson Steven Cheung dodged a question about the Obama insult and praised Hokit's win instead, CNN's Jake Tapper said Monday on X.
