Ariel Winter and Nolan Gould, best known for playing siblings Alex and Luke Dunphy on the hit sitcom Modern Family, have reunited in real life as roommates. The 28-year-old actress revealed to People magazine that she is now renting a house with Gould in California.
A New Chapter After a Breakup
Winter had been splitting her time between California and Tennessee, where she lived with her longtime boyfriend, actor Luke Benward, and their four rescue dogs since 2022. The couple announced their split last week after six years together. Despite the breakup, Winter emphasized that they remain close friends and co-parents to their dogs.
“He’s still one of my best friends, a great human being and a great pup co-parent,” she said. “Just because sometimes people aren’t meant to be doesn’t mean you don’t still appreciate the time spent and retain the friendship you shared. Still a big Luke fan over here!!!”
Living with a Former Co-Star
Winter and Gould, 27, have remained close since Modern Family ended in 2020. Their new living arrangement has sparked comparisons to a real-life reboot of the show.
“It’s funny because I spend more time out here now and I rent a house with Nolan,” Winter explained. “People ask me about a Modern Family reboot, but Nolan and I are real roommates now. So it’s like we’re having our own little Modern Family reboot, but it’s just the two of us living together.”
The actress, who also voices Princess Sofia in the Disney animated series Sofia the First and its upcoming sequel, believes fans would enjoy seeing their daily lives. “I’m not gonna lie, when we sit there at night and we watch, like, Temptation Island together, it’s pretty hilarious. So we have thought about it. We’re just like, people would find this really funny,” she said, hinting at the possibility of documenting their roommate adventures.
Bond That Lasts Beyond the Show
Winter previously told People that she and Gould have always been close. “I’m extremely close to Nolan. He plays my little brother, and he and I are still best friends,” she said earlier this year. Reflecting on the end of Modern Family, she admitted it was hard to say goodbye to her on-screen family.
“It was hard. We really were like a real family. It was weird knowing it would just be over, and I wouldn’t get to see everybody all the time anymore. It was like, ‘Wait, yeah, wait, we’re not going to be together on Monday?’” she recalled. “So on the one hand, I didn’t want it to end, but at the same time I was ready to start something new as an adult.”
Now, with Gould as her roommate, Winter is experiencing a unique blend of past and present, keeping the spirit of Modern Family alive in their own way.
