According to Status, "60 Minutes" correspondents Bill Whitaker, Lesley Stahl, and Jon Wertheim held an hourlong meeting on Wednesday to discuss their futures at the program following the latest round of firings at the newsmagazine.
Stahl's contract has expired, and it remains unclear whether she will return for the show's next season, Status reported. Meanwhile, Whitaker is considering his options and could potentially leave the program, according to three sources cited by the outlet.
Questions about the plans of these three journalists resurfaced this week after the firing of Scott Pelley, whose contract was terminated following clashes with new executive producer Nick Bilton. Prior to Pelley's dismissal, CBS had already terminated correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi, as well as executive producer Tanya Simon.
Anderson Cooper, who worked on the show's latest season, announced his decision to leave in May. The drama engulfing one of television's most renowned news programs was triggered by the installation of right-wing columnist Bari Weiss as CBS News' editor-in-chief.
Weiss took the helm after the Trump administration-approved merger of CBS's parent company, Paramount, with Skydance. She has since faced repeated accusations of attempting to curry favor with the president. Notably, the broadcaster abruptly pulled a "60 Minutes" segment about Venezuelan immigrants sent by the Trump administration to a prison in El Salvador shortly before it was scheduled to air.
Pelley, whose career at CBS News spanned more than three decades, criticized Weiss during a tense all-hands meeting on Monday. "She's murdering '60 Minutes,'" Pelley reportedly said. "She does not love this place. She was brought in to kill it and is doing exactly that."
