TimeLine Auctions, the esteemed British saleroom recognized for its expertise in museum-level antiquities, has announced a major Antiquities & Ancient Art Auction scheduled for March 3, 2026. This prestigious event will showcase a remarkable collection of historical artifacts, including Roman marble sculptures, Greek pottery, fine ancient bronzes, ancient jewellery, and Roman gemstones.
Flagship Sale and Online Sessions
The auction will commence with a flagship sale on Day One, March 3, which will feature the most important highlights and be accompanied by a dedicated printed catalogue. Following this, online-only sessions will run from March 4 to 7, offering a more accessible platform for bidders. The auction program will conclude with an Ancient Coins sale on March 10-11, alongside weights, tokens, medals, and books.
Highlighted Artifacts
Among the leading highlights are several exceptional Roman marble pieces. These include a Life-Size Roman Marble Head of Hermes from the 1st-2nd century A.D. and a Roman Helmeted, Cuirassed Bust of Mars, carved in the late Roman period. This bust of Mars, the god of war, features a Corinthian helmet and finely carved cuirass, symbolizing strength and martial authority, and embodies Roman artistic mastery.
Additionally, a Life-Size Marble Torso of a Ram reflects monumental Roman taste, possibly intended for display in a grand villa or bath complex, with naturalistic modelling that captures strength and movement.
Greek and Bronze Artistry
Greek artistry is represented by a rare Attic Black-Figure Alabastron from circa 500-480 B.C., decorated with a vivid battle scene between a Greek warrior and a Scythian archer, a narrative associated with the Persian Wars.
The auction also features exceptional bronzes, such as a substantial Roman Bronze Robed Torso displaying elegant drapery and rich ancient patination, and an Egyptian Bronze of Horus Standing upon an Antelope from the Late Period-Ptolemaic era (664-30 B.C.), embodying divine symbolism and sacred animal iconography.
Gemstones and Imperial Imagery
A focal point in the gem section is a finely carved Roman Agate Cameo Portrait of the Emperor Augustus, underscoring the miniature arts and imperial imagery prized by the ancient elite.
