At just 17 years old, Zac Boone of Truro, Nova Scotia, has already turned his passion for sports and photography into a thriving freelance career. The young photographer, who balances high school with his growing business, has been capturing local sporting events and athletes across the province.
From Hobby to Profession
Boone's journey began when he received his first camera as a gift. He quickly discovered a talent for freezing moments of athletic action, from hockey games to track meets. What started as a hobby soon evolved into a professional pursuit, with Boone taking on assignments for local teams and media outlets.
Support from Family
Boone credits his parents, Sara and Andrew, for their unwavering support. They have helped him navigate the logistics of equipment, travel, and scheduling while ensuring he stays on top of his schoolwork. In an interview, Boone emphasized that his primary goal is to tell compelling stories through his images.
“I just want to tell a story,” Boone said. “Every athlete has a unique journey, and I feel honored to document their hard work and achievements.”
Building a Reputation
Boone’s portfolio continues to grow, featuring a wide range of sports from basketball to soccer. His keen eye for composition and timing has earned him praise from coaches, players, and fellow photographers. He now receives requests to cover games and events on a regular basis.
Looking ahead, Boone hopes to expand his reach and possibly pursue sports journalism or professional photography after graduation. For now, he remains focused on honing his craft and capturing the spirit of Nova Scotia’s athletic community.
