Calgary Black Film Festival Returns May 22

The sixth edition of the Calgary Black Film Festival is set to take place from May 22 to 26, showcasing 42 films from around the world. The festival will open with a red carpet gala on Friday, May 22, at 6 p.m. at the Globe Cinema.

Opening Film and Highlights

The opening film is Kalu Oji's drama Pasa Faho, which tells the story of a struggling Nigerian-Australian shoe salesman whose 12-year-old estranged son moves in with him as his business is put at risk. Other notable films include Jean-Gabriel Leynaud's documentary Of Mud and Blood, which explores the lives of inhabitants of a coltan mining village in the Congo, and Marie-Helene Roux's drama Muganga, The One Who Treats, inspired by the work of Dr. Denis Mukwege, who treats survivors of wartime sexual violence in Eastern Congo.

Screenings and Events

Screenings will take place at the Globe Cinema, with panel discussions and workshops held at the Calgary Memorial Park Library on May 23 and 24 as part of the CBFF Black Market. Most films will also be available online across Canada.
