Alberta Ballet's Notre-Dame, OddBird Fair, and Rae Spoon: Weekend Highlights
Alberta Ballet's Notre-Dame, OddBird Fair, Rae Spoon

The Alberta Ballet concludes its spectacular season with a striking production of Notre-Dame de Paris, based on Victor Hugo's classic tale. This high-contrast, red-tinged ballet tells the story of Quasimodo and Esmeralda, blending romance and tragedy with a raw, cinematic quality reminiscent of an Akira Kurosawa fever dream. The performance features music by Maurice Jarre and costumes by Yves Saint Laurent, inspired by Notre Dame's stained glass. Choreographed by Roland Petit, this mob-filled interpretation explores class struggle and sacrifice, marking a breathtaking finale under artistic director Francesco Ventriglia.

The ballet takes place Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., with an additional Saturday matinee at 2 p.m. at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium (11455 87 Ave.). Tickets start at $76.01 and are available at albertaballet.com.
