School responds quickly to inappropriate presentation incident
The Lester B. Pearson School Board has mobilized support services for Grade 10 students at St. Thomas High School in Pointe-Claire after an explicit image accidentally appeared during a Montreal police presentation about sexual assault and consent.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when officers from the Montreal police sexual-assault squad were conducting an educational session with students. According to board spokesperson Darren Becker, the inappropriate content consisted of an image of genitalia that was part of an unrelated police investigation.
Immediate response from school administration
School administrators acted swiftly following the disturbing incident. The principal of St. Thomas High School personally contacted parents and guardians of all Grade 10 students to inform them about what had occurred during the police presentation.
Counselling support was immediately offered to any students who might have been affected by viewing the explicit material. The school board characterized the incident as both accidental and deeply unfortunate, emphasizing that the image was not intentionally shown to students.
Police presentation context and aftermath
The Montreal police presentation was designed to address important topics of sexual assault awareness and consent education for high school students. The accidental inclusion of the explicit image directly contradicted the presentation's educational purpose.
Darren Becker confirmed the school board's position that the incident was unintentional, though he acknowledged the significant impact it may have had on students. The Lester B. Pearson School Board continues to work with both the school community and Montreal police to ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for future educational presentations.
The school remains committed to providing a safe learning environment while addressing the sensitive topics of sexual consent and assault prevention through properly vetted educational materials.
