Bear spray incident at Genesis Centre injures three

Bear Spray Deployed in Crowded Recreation Centre

Calgary police have taken two individuals into custody following a disturbing incident where bear spray was discharged inside the Genesis Centre, a popular recreation facility in the northeast community of Falconridge. The event unfolded on Monday afternoon, around 4 p.m., causing alarm and minor injuries.

Victims and Emergency Response

Emergency services rushed to the scene at 755 Falonridge Blvd. N.E. after receiving reports that a noxious substance had been released by a group of youths. Upon arrival, first responders located three victims who had been exposed to the irritant.

Their injuries were initially assessed as minor, and they were awaiting further evaluation by Emergency Medical Services. The swift response from authorities helped to secure the area and provide aid to those affected.

Investigation and Potential Link to Previous Incident

Authorities have stated that it is currently unclear whether this was a targeted attack. The investigation remained active into the late afternoon as officers worked to piece together the events.

This incident occurred just days after a similar one at a nearby location. On November 13, around noon, bear spray was released inside Nelson Mandela High School, which is adjacent to the Genesis Centre. In that case, police had identified a potential target but reported no injuries and made no arrests.

The close proximity and similar nature of the two events are now a key part of the ongoing police investigation as they work to ensure public safety in the area.
