The Greater Essex County District School Board (GECDSB) has issued a public call for candidates to fill two vacant trustee positions. Interested community members have until December 10, 2025, to submit their applications.
What Prompted the Trustee Vacancies?
The board is looking to replace two trustees who resigned earlier this year. Ron LeClair, who represented the communities of Amherstburg and LaSalle, stepped down in September. His departure was followed in November by the resignation of Nancy Armstrong, who served as the trustee for Leamington and Pelee Island.
Who is Eligible to Apply?
The board has set clear eligibility criteria for prospective trustees. Applicants must be:
- At least 18 years of age.
- A Canadian citizen.
- A resident within the GECDSB region.
- Legally qualified to vote in a school board election.
- Not disqualified by any legislation from holding public office.
The board will verify candidate qualifications through the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC). Any applicant whose status cannot be confirmed by the deadline will be disqualified from the process.
How to Submit an Application
Those interested can obtain a candidate information package from the main reception desk at the GECDSB administration building, located at 451 Park Street West in Windsor, during regular business hours.
The required application materials include a completed notice of application form, a current resume, and a signed declaration of qualification. Applicants have the option to submit their package either online through the board's dedicated portal at forms.publicboard.ca/Trustee-Application or by mail.
Mailed applications should be sent to Director of Education Vicki Houston at the board's Park Street West address: Greater Essex County District School Board, 451 Park St. W., Windsor, ON N9A 6K1.
The Selection Process and Current Candidate Pool
Following the December 10 deadline, the board will review submissions, select candidates for interviews, and ultimately appoint the two new trustees by a vote of the existing board members.
As of December 4, six individuals had already thrown their hats into the ring. The early applicants are Nick Amlin, Francine Salinitri, Cheryl Lovell, Chandrika Abhang, Sherry Ducedre, and Beth St. Denis.
This appointment process offers a crucial opportunity for community members to help shape the direction of public education in Windsor-Essex, ensuring local schools are governed by dedicated and qualified representatives.
