London, Ontario – The London & Middlesex Community Housing (LMCH) has unveiled a $1 billion, 15-year Master Regeneration Plan to revitalize its community housing stock. The plan, presented by LMCH CEO Paul Chisholm to a council committee on May 27, 2026, aims to address aging infrastructure and improve living conditions for residents.
Scope of the Plan
The 2026-2040 plan includes renovations, energy efficiency upgrades, and potential redevelopment of existing properties. Chisholm emphasized the need for sustainable, modern housing that meets current standards. The investment is expected to create jobs and stimulate the local economy.
Key Components
- Renovation of aging buildings
- Energy efficiency improvements
- Accessibility upgrades
- Community space enhancements
The plan also involves partnerships with private and non-profit sectors to leverage additional funding. LMCH manages over 4,000 units across London, serving low-income residents.
Challenges and Opportunities
Chisholm noted that the plan faces challenges such as rising construction costs and supply chain issues. However, he expressed confidence that the long-term benefits outweigh the obstacles. The council committee will review the proposal before a final vote.
This initiative comes amid a national housing crisis, with many communities seeking innovative solutions to address affordability and quality. LMCH's plan could serve as a model for other housing providers across Canada.
