A WestJet flight destined for the United States was forced to return to Vancouver International Airport (YVR) shortly after takeoff on Friday. The aircraft, which was en route to Phoenix, Arizona, landed safely at YVR, according to airport officials.
Passengers Safely Deplaned
Chloe Reynaud, a spokesperson for YVR, confirmed that passengers were escorted off the plane before the aircraft was towed to a gate. YVR Fire and Rescue assisted with the deplaning process as a precautionary measure. All passengers were safely removed from the aircraft without incident.
Mechanical Issue Suspected
While an official cause has not been confirmed by WestJet, reports indicate that the return was prompted by a mechanical issue. Postmedia has reached out to WestJet for further details. Flights at YVR continued to operate normally, with no disruptions to other arrivals or departures.
The incident occurred on a busy travel day, but airport operations remained smooth. The aircraft was towed to a gate for inspection and maintenance. Further updates are expected as the investigation continues.
