Ontario Provincial Police have charged a driver with stunt driving after a rental car was clocked traveling at 185 km/h on a Northern Ontario highway. The incident occurred on June 25, 2026, according to an OPP news release.
Details of the Incident
Police observed the vehicle speeding and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, whose name has not been released, was driving a rental car at 185 km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. OPP Constable Michelle Simard said, “Speeding at this level is extremely dangerous and puts everyone on the road at risk.”
Charges and Penalties
The driver was charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act. This carries an immediate 30-day license suspension and a 14-day vehicle impoundment. If convicted, penalties include fines up to $10,000, six demerit points, and possible jail time. The rental car was impounded.

Stunt driving includes excessive speeding, such as 40 km/h or more over the limit. OPP remind drivers that aggressive driving is a leading cause of collisions. “We urge all motorists to obey speed limits and drive responsibly,” Simard added.
