Montreal's Second Airport Terminal Opening June 15, 2026

Greater Montreal is set to gain its second major airport facility with the official opening of a new terminal at MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport on June 15, 2026. YHU Infrastructure Partners (operating as YHU Terminal) and MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport have proudly announced this significant development, which will introduce commercial flights to the airport for the first time in decades.

A New Era for Montreal Aviation

The new terminal represents a major advancement for air travel in the Greater Montreal region, offering passengers an accessible, efficient, and user-friendly airport experience while providing competitive operating conditions for airlines. This development positions Montreal alongside other major global cities that utilize complementary airport networks to meet the air travel demands of residents and visitors.

Initial Airlines and Future Expansion

Upon opening, the terminal will host operations for Porter Airlines and Pascan Aviation, offering flights connecting Canadian destinations from coast to coast. The facility has been designed with future growth in mind and will be capable of welcoming additional carriers as demand increases.

"For Greater Montreal passengers, the opening of the terminal at MET will offer more options for travellers and allow airlines to take advantage of greater airport capacity in the metropolitan region," said Yanic Roy, President and CEO of MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport.

Redefining the Airport Experience

Designed, built, and operated by YHU Infrastructure Partners, the new terminal offers a renewed vision of air travel centered on efficiency, comfort, and simplicity. Covering 21,000 square metres, the facility features nine boarding bridges and a spacious waiting lounge with 900 seats.

Operational Efficiency

The terminal's integrated operating model, where all operations are managed under YHU Terminal, streamlines coordination and enables rapid response when needed. The compact size and efficient passenger journey design allow travellers to arrive shortly before boarding and move quickly through the facility.

"We are not simply building an airport terminal; we're redefining the way people travel in Montreal," says Charles Roberge, President and CEO of YHU Terminal. "This project is the result of close collaboration with MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport, and every detail has been designed to offer passengers a seamless, efficient and human experience that meets the expectations of today's travellers."

Historical Context and Design Elements

The sleek terminal design maximizes natural light while incorporating contemporary nods to the historic visit of the R-100 airship in 1930, when its arrival in Saint-Hubert drew massive crowds and symbolized the technological daring of the era. Opened in 1927, Saint-Hubert Airport—now MET – Montreal Metropolitan Airport—is Canada's oldest airport and served as Montreal's main airport for many years before commercial flights were moved to Dorval in 1940 to dedicate the facility to the war effort.

Strategic Positioning

The new terminal at MET aims to become the airport of choice for direct flights operated exclusively using quieter, more fuel-efficient single-aisle aircraft. This strategic positioning addresses both environmental concerns and operational efficiency while expanding Montreal's aviation infrastructure to meet growing demand.

The June 15, 2026 opening marks a significant milestone in Montreal's transportation development, providing enhanced connectivity options for travellers and creating new opportunities for airlines serving the Canadian market.
