Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash on Lougheed Highway in Mission Under Investigation
A tragic multi-vehicle accident on Lougheed Highway in Mission has claimed the life of a 74-year-old man and left authorities investigating the circumstances surrounding the Thursday morning incident.
Details of the Collision
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the intersection of Lougheed Highway and the Cedar Valley Connector. According to police reports, the driver of a red GMC Sierra pickup truck was traveling eastbound in the right-hand lane when the vehicle suddenly veered between the right and left lanes of traffic, which had been stopped at the intersection.
Witness accounts and dashcam footage reviewed by investigators show the pickup truck smashing through the stopped traffic, striking several vehicles before continuing through the intersection and ultimately colliding with a utility pole. The driver of the pickup truck died a short time after the collision.
Injuries and Response
One other driver involved in the multi-vehicle collision was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Remarkably, no one else sustained serious injuries in the incident that involved approximately five vehicles and a transit bus.
The cause of the crash remains undetermined at this time. Multiple agencies are involved in the investigation, including the RCMP, the collision investigation team, and the B.C. Coroners Service.
