This significant award was determined through a nationwide public vote, highlighting the company's standout performance among thousands of applicants.
Empowering Growth Through Strategic Funding
Nate Wickens, the owner of Next Level Property Management and Services based on Cape Sable Island, Nova Scotia, expressed his enthusiasm for the grant. "Winning the Zensurance Small Business Grant is a real driver of growth," Wickens stated. "It allows me to reinvest in my company, purchase new equipment, and take on additional property management contracts. The funding from Zensurance provides the opportunity to expand my business by hiring local help and creating long-term value for our clients and the communities we serve."
Supporting Canadian Entrepreneurs Nationwide
Zensurance established its Small Business Grant competition in 2023 with the mission of bolstering Canadian entrepreneurs, startups, and small business owners. To date, the initiative has distributed a total of $105,000 in grants to businesses across the country, fostering innovation and economic development.
In addition to the top award, five other Canadian small businesses were named as finalists, each receiving a $1,000 grant. These grants acknowledge their contributions to innovation, entrepreneurship, and positive community impact, underscoring Zensurance's commitment to nurturing diverse business ventures.
Meet the Grant Recipients and Finalists
Next Level Property Management & Services Ltd.
Founded two years ago by 21-year-old Nate Wickens, this Cape Sable Island-based company specializes in landscaping and property maintenance services. With a strong community focus, it offers seniors' discounts and provides free weekly service to households in need. The grant will support equipment upgrades, business expansion, and hiring more students as Wickens continues his studies in economics and business.
Infinite Harvest Technologies
Based in Niagara, Ontario, and owned by Luis Ortiz, this company converts food waste into reusable proteins and fertilizers using advanced bioconversion technology. Co-founded by CEO Luis Ortiz, it assists businesses and municipalities in reducing waste costs and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. The funding will accelerate growth across Canada through enhanced sales systems and website improvements.
Ouroboros Deconstruction
Owned by Meredith Moore and headquartered in Toronto, Ouroboros Deconstruction adopts a circular approach to demolition by salvaging materials for reuse in new construction. This innovative method helps keep usable materials out of landfills, reducing waste and carbon emissions. The grant will fund expanded salvage infrastructure, along with additional warehouse and lumber yard space to drive further growth.
Shore Peddlin’
Based in Musquodoboit Harbour and owned by Jess Tofflemire, Shore Peddlin’ serves classic treats and locally made ice cream at private, corporate, and community events using a vintage bicycle cart. Operating year-round across Nova Scotia, the business adds a distinctive local touch to events throughout the province. The grant will facilitate equipment upgrades, team expansion, and overall business development.
