A new seniors housing project has officially opened in Saskatoon, providing much-needed affordable housing for older adults in the community. The development, which was announced in 2024, includes 60 units designed for independent living with support services available on-site.
Project Details
The housing complex features one- and two-bedroom apartments, with rents set at 80% of market rates to ensure affordability. Amenities include a communal dining area, fitness room, and outdoor garden spaces. The project was funded through a partnership between the Saskatchewan government, the City of Saskatoon, and private donors.
Community Impact
According to city officials, the project addresses a critical gap in seniors housing, as the population aged 65 and over in Saskatoon is projected to grow by 30% over the next decade. “This development is a vital step in ensuring our seniors have safe, affordable places to live,” said Mayor Cynthia Block in a statement.
Construction Timeline
Construction began in early 2025 and was completed on schedule. The building incorporates energy-efficient design features, including solar panels and high-performance insulation, to reduce utility costs for residents.
