Halton Regional Police have charged seven individuals with multiple offences and recovered dozens of stolen items following an investigation that began with a vehicle theft in Oakville.
Initial Theft Leads to Broader Probe
In late March 2026, officers received a report of a wallet stolen from a vehicle. The victims' credit cards were subsequently used without authorization. As detectives dug deeper, they identified two suspects: Kathleen Rand and Daniel Gignac.
On May 11, Rand was arrested. Police say several pieces of stolen identification were found in her possession at the time of arrest.
Search Warrant Yields Stolen Goods
Two days later, on May 13, a search warrant was executed at a residence in Oakville. Six people, including Gignac, were taken into custody. During the search, officers recovered illicit drugs and a wide array of stolen property, including six e-bicycles, gasoline-powered generators, power tools, and gift cards.
All seven suspects are from the Halton region. Rand, 22, of Oakville faces multiple charges: two counts each of theft of credit card and unauthorized use of credit card data; single counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, possession of identity documents, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for trafficking, possession of methamphetamine, and failure to comply with a probation order.
Daniel Gignac, 40, of Burlington, has been charged with two counts of theft of credit card and one count of unauthorized use of credit card data.
Five additional suspects from Oakville—Kaleb Sciranka, 43; Dennis Costa, 36; Renee Hamilton, 43; Kevin Witts, 47; and Michael Tekic, 70—are each charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 for trafficking, and possession of methamphetamine.
Investigation Continues
The investigation remains active as police work to locate the rightful owners of the recovered property. Photos of the seized e-bicycles have been released, and authorities are asking anyone who recognizes them or has information to contact Detective Constable Derek Mizener of the Risk Mitigation Team at derek.mizener@haltonpolice.ca.
