Mississauga Brothers Face Dozens of Charges in Major Auto Theft Investigation
Peel Regional Police have announced the arrest of two brothers from Mississauga, charging them with a total of 55 offences in connection with an organized auto theft ring. The investigation, which began in October 2025, led to the recovery of 13 stolen vehicles with an estimated value exceeding $800,000.
Details of the Charges and Investigation
According to police reports, the investigation targeted a suspected organized crime group involved in vehicle theft. Following the execution of search warrants at two residences in Mississauga, the probe culminated in March 2026 with the arrests and vehicle recoveries. Sulman Dar, 28, faces 24 charges of possession of property obtained by crime and 23 charges of failing to comply with a release order. His brother, Shahroz Dar, 24, is charged with four counts of theft of a motor vehicle, three counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and one count of failing to comply with a release order.
Notably, both men were under court-imposed release orders at the time of their arrests, related to previous offences including robbery and property crimes. This adds a layer of complexity to the case, as they were already subject to legal restrictions.
Police Response and Community Impact
In a statement, Deputy Chief Marc Andrews emphasized the priority of combating auto theft in the region. "Auto theft remains a priority for Peel Regional Police," he said. "We have been leading the charge in reducing auto theft across our region, and this investigation is another example of the continued efforts of our officers. Organized crime groups that target our communities for profit will be identified, disrupted, and dismantled. We will continue to hold those responsible fully accountable for their criminal actions."
Peel police reported that their ongoing efforts to disrupt auto theft activities have contributed to a nearly 15% decrease in stolen vehicles so far in 2026 compared to the same period last year. This statistic underscores the broader impact of such investigations on community safety and crime reduction.
