After five weeks of disruptive job action that created uncertainty across Ontario's college system, a sense of normalcy is returning as support staff have officially ratified a new collective agreement.
The Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) announced that its members voted overwhelmingly in favor of the new deal, bringing an end to one of the more contentious labor disputes in recent college history. The agreement covers approximately 12,000 support staff workers across 24 Ontario colleges.
Overwhelming Support for New Terms
Union leadership expressed satisfaction with the ratification results, noting that the agreement received strong support from membership. The new contract addresses several key concerns that had led to the strike action, including job security, wages, and working conditions.
"This agreement represents a significant step forward for our members," said OPSEU leadership in a statement. "The dedication shown by our members during this challenging period has resulted in a fair contract that recognizes their invaluable contributions to Ontario's college system."

College employers expressed relief at the resolution, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining quality education services across the province. The strike had created operational challenges for numerous colleges, affecting everything from administrative functions to student services.
"We are pleased that students and staff can now return to their normal routines with this matter resolved," stated a representative for the college employers.
