A 20-year-old man already awaiting trial in connection with a fatal crash in Brampton has been charged again, this time with stunt driving in Mississauga. Peel Regional Police confirmed the arrest of Mitchel Hunter on Monday evening after officers observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Hurontario Street near Britannia Road West.
Details of the New Charges
Hunter was pulled over after police clocked his vehicle at 150 km/h in an 80 km/h zone. He now faces one count of stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act. His driver's license has been suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle was impounded for 14 days. This marks the second time Hunter has been charged with stunt driving in the past year.
Connection to the Fatal Brampton Crash
Hunter was previously charged in December 2025 with dangerous driving causing death and criminal negligence causing death after a collision on Bovaird Drive in Brampton that killed 34-year-old Sarah Mitchell. That case remains before the courts, and Hunter is scheduled to appear in a Brampton courtroom next month. The new stunt driving charge adds to his legal troubles.
Police Statement
Peel Regional Police Constable Sarah Johnson stated, “This individual was already under serious charges for a fatal collision. To see him allegedly engaging in dangerous driving again is deeply concerning. Our officers remain vigilant in enforcing traffic laws to keep our roads safe.”
Court Appearance
Hunter was released on a promise to appear and is set to face the new charges in a Mississauga court on June 15, 2026. The court will also consider the impact of these new allegations on his existing bail conditions.
The incident has reignited calls for stricter penalties for stunt driving, especially for those with prior serious driving offenses. Advocacy groups are urging the provincial government to implement mandatory jail time for repeat offenders.
