GCT Appoints Katey Grist as General Counsel, Todd Croll to Retire in 2026
GCT Names Katey Grist as New General Counsel

Vancouver-based port operator GCT Global Container Terminals has announced a key leadership change in its legal and governance team. The company confirmed the appointment of Katey Grist as its new General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, effective January 6, 2026. Grist will also take a seat on the company's Executive Leadership Team.

A New Legal Leader from the Sustainability Sector

Katey Grist brings a wealth of experience to GCT, most recently serving as Director of Sustainability and Associate General Counsel at Methanex Corporation. In that role, she provided crucial advice on commercial agreements, major transactions, and corporate governance matters. Her career path includes practicing law at the national firm Fasken and holding legal positions at Nyrstar, a global multi-metals business.

Grist's academic credentials are firmly rooted in British Columbia. She earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Victoria and subsequently completed her law degree at the University of British Columbia.

Leadership Transition and Retirement

This appointment is part of a planned transition. GCT simultaneously announced that Todd Croll, the company's current General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, will retire on February 27, 2026. Croll is recognized for an outstanding tenure with the organization.

To ensure continuity, Croll will work closely with Grist during the onboarding period. He will continue to act as an advisor to both the GCT Board of Directors and the Executive Team, supporting a seamless handover of responsibilities.

Executive Endorsement and Strategic Vision

Eric Waltz, President and CEO of GCT, publicly welcomed Grist to the team. He highlighted the strategic value of her appointment, stating, "Katey brings strong legal and governance experience across complex organizations. Her background will support GCT’s executive team and Board as we advance our operational and strategic priorities."

Waltz also paid tribute to the departing executive, adding, "We are deeply grateful for Todd’s many years of service and the lasting impact of his leadership at GCT. We thank him for his continued support during this transition and wish him every success in retirement."
