Armoured Car Guard Charged with Theft, Firearm Offences

A 35-year-old employee of an armoured car company is facing multiple charges, including theft and firearm offences, more than a year after money was stolen from a vehicle during a cash drop-off in downtown Toronto.

Incident Details

Toronto Police Service reported that on April 14, 2025, at approximately 3:20 p.m., officers responded to a theft from a motor vehicle in the Yonge Street and Dundas Street East area. Police allege that two guards drove their armoured vehicle to a location to complete a cash drop-off. The guards exited the vehicle and entered the premises.

According to police, a suspect driving a white pickup truck pulled up beside the armoured vehicle. The suspect exited the truck and entered the front door of the armoured vehicle, which had been left unlocked. The suspect allegedly removed a quantity of cash before fleeing the area.

Investigation and Arrest

Police said officers from the Hold Up Squad assigned to the investigation identified an employee of the armoured car company as allegedly being involved in the theft. On May 13, members of the Hold Up Squad executed a search warrant, located the suspect, and took him into custody. Investigators further allege that officers recovered a firearm and other potential evidence during the search.

Charges Laid

Dane Marson, of Brampton, was charged with theft over $5,000, conspiracy to commit an indictable offence, possession of a firearm without being the holder of a licence, careless storage of a firearm, possession of a loaded regulated firearm, possession of a restricted or prohibited firearm while not being the holder of a valid licence, three counts of possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon or prohibited device, and failing to comply with an undertaking.
