York Police Officer Faces Computer Misuse and Breach of Trust Charges

A rookie officer with the York Regional Police is facing serious charges following an investigation by the force's Professional Standards Bureau.

Charges Filed Against Constable Kivijan Ketheeswaran

York police announced that Const. Kivijan Ketheeswaran was arrested and charged on Wednesday with unauthorized use of a computer and breach of trust by a public officer. The charges stem from an investigation by the York Regional Police Professional Standards Bureau (PSB).

Ketheeswaran began his employment with York Regional Police in October 2024 and served as a uniform officer in 4 District. He has been on paid suspension since April 11, 2025, as a result of the ongoing PSB investigation.

The constable has been released from custody with conditions and is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Sept. 8 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket.

Arrest Not Related to Project South

York police emphasized that this incident is not connected to Project South, a separate investigation that resulted in criminal charges against eight officers—seven active and one retired—back in February. In that case, two additional officers were suspended with pay and remain under investigation, with possible charges under the Community Safety and Policing Act.

The seven officers accused in Project South, four of whom were suspended without pay, face criminal charges including allegations of a house being shot up and conspiracy to commit murder. Peel Regional Police also suspended three officers in connection with that investigation.

Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to contact the Professional Standards Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6688, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips, or leave an anonymous tip online at 1800222tips.com.
