Two Women Charged in Gold Necklace Distraction Theft

Windsor police have charged two women in connection with a distraction theft that occurred on May 13 in a parking lot in the 4300 block of Walker Road. The suspects, a 21-year-old and a 23-year-old, were already in custody for similar offences in other jurisdictions when police identified them as suspects.

Details of the Incident

According to police, the victim was approached by two female suspects who engaged her in conversation. During the interaction, the suspects placed a fake necklace around the victim's neck while allegedly removing her gold necklace without her knowledge. After the suspects left, the victim realized her gold necklace had been stolen.

Investigation and Charges

Officers from the Windsor Police Service target base unit launched an investigation and identified the suspects. Warrants were issued for their arrests, and both women were subsequently turned over to Windsor police. Each has been charged with fraud under $5,000, theft under $5,000, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
