Two Boys Charged in Facebook Marketplace iPhone Thefts

Edmonton police have charged two male youths in connection with a series of thefts involving iPhones listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. The incidents occurred over the past several weeks, with the suspects allegedly arranging to meet sellers and then stealing the devices without payment.

Details of the Incidents

According to police, the two boys, aged 15 and 17, would respond to listings for iPhones on the popular online marketplace. They would arrange to meet the sellers in public places, such as shopping center parking lots, and then grab the phones and flee. In some cases, they reportedly used force or intimidation. The total value of stolen property is estimated at several thousand dollars.

Charges Laid

The youths face multiple charges, including theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property. One of them also faces an additional charge of assault with a weapon. They were arrested on June 15 and have since been released on conditions, with a court appearance scheduled for July.
