Three Ottawans Charged in Counterfeit Cash Investigation

Three individuals from Ottawa have been charged following a police investigation into the use of counterfeit currency in online marketplace transactions.

Investigation Details

Ottawa police reported that since March, they have received complaints from individuals who sold items on platforms such as Facebook Marketplace, only to realize they were paid with fake Canadian banknotes. The items sold included electronics, gold jewelry, and computer equipment. Victims reported losses totaling tens of thousands of dollars.

Arrests and Seizures

Early Saturday morning, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the Parkwood Hills neighborhood. Three suspects were apprehended inside the home. Police noted that one suspect attempted to flee but was taken into custody. During the search, authorities seized thousands of dollars in counterfeit cash, along with legitimate currency believed to be crime proceeds. Additionally, stolen property and approximately 1.5 kilograms of marijuana were recovered.
