A residential fire on Saturday caused an estimated $100,000 in damage and left two people displaced from their home in Windsor.

Fire Response and Details

Windsor Fire and Rescue Service crews were called to the 2200 block of Pelissier Street, just south of Tecumseh Road West, around 3:30 p.m. for a fire at a two-storey home. Upon arrival, crews reported thick smoke emanating from the structure.

Fire prevention officer John Smith stated that crews conducted a primary search in the basement while simultaneously attacking the fire. Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services personnel and Windsor police provided support at the scene.

Investigation and Cause

After the fire was extinguished, an investigator attended to determine the origin and cause. It was determined that the fire was caused by an electrical failure in the basement, according to Smith.

There were no injuries reported. The estimated damage is $100,000, and the two displaced residents are receiving assistance from the local Red Cross.
