The new casino at the Western Fair District in London, Ontario, is ready for its ribbon-cutting ceremony after 27 months of renovation. The $50 million project transformed the former slot machine facility into a full-scale casino with table games, a restaurant, and a sports bar.
Project Completion and Features
According to Sean Irvine of CTV News London, the casino build was completed on June 24, 2026. The renovated space includes 800 slot machines, 20 table games, and a new dining venue. The casino is operated by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, which also runs other Ontario locations.
The renovation began in early 2024 and faced delays due to supply chain issues and labor shortages. A spokesperson for Gateway Casinos stated, "We are thrilled to finally open our doors and offer a world-class gaming experience to the London community."
Economic Impact and Community Response
The casino is expected to create 300 full-time jobs and generate significant tax revenue for the city. However, some community groups have expressed concerns about problem gambling. The Western Fair District, which hosts the casino, has partnered with addiction support services to promote responsible gaming.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for June 28, 2026, with local officials and Gateway executives in attendance.
