Elliot Lake Man Charged with Theft from Hardware Store
Ontario Provincial Police have charged a 45-year-old man from Elliot Lake with theft following an incident at a local hardware store. The arrest occurred on May 17, 2026, after police responded to a report of a shoplifting in progress at a hardware store on Highway 108.
According to police, the suspect allegedly concealed several items and attempted to leave the store without paying. Store security detained the individual until officers arrived on the scene. The stolen merchandise, valued at over $500, was recovered and returned to the store.
The accused has been charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on June 10, 2026.
