Cape Breton woman accused of theft, hitting employee with cart

RCMP in Cape Breton have charged a woman following an incident at a local store where she is accused of stealing merchandise and striking an employee with a shopping cart.

Incident Details

Police responded to a report of a theft in progress at a retail establishment on June 23, 2026. Upon arrival, officers learned that a female suspect had allegedly taken items without paying and, when confronted by a store employee, used a shopping cart to hit the worker.

The employee sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The suspect was located nearby and arrested without further incident.

Charges Laid

The accused, a 34-year-old woman from Cape Breton, faces charges of theft under $5,000 and assault with a weapon. She has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

“We take these incidents seriously and appreciate the cooperation of the public and store staff,” said RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Clarke in a statement.
