Details of the Incident
According to the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), officers conducting traffic enforcement observed a school bus traveling at a high rate of speed around 4 p.m. The bus was clocked at 100 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
Officers initiated a traffic stop and spoke with the driver regarding the excessive speed, especially given that children were present on the bus at the time of the offense.
Charges Filed
The 56-year-old female driver from Beeton, Ontario, faces three charges:
- Speeding 50+ km/h over the posted limit
- Stunt driving with excessive speed
- Failing to surrender their licence
Context and Concerns
The OPP noted that this incident is particularly concerning because the same intersection was the scene of a fatal two-vehicle collision just over five weeks ago. Police emphasize the importance of safe and responsible driving, especially when children are involved.
The Dufferin OPP remains committed to road safety and will continue proactive enforcement throughout the county to ensure motorists operate safely and within posted speed limits.
