A 20-year-old man from Woodstock has been formally charged with second-degree murder in connection with a suspicious death investigation that was launched in mid-March, according to local authorities in Oxford County.
Welfare Check Leads to Discovery
Woodstock police officers conducted a welfare check at a residence on Dundas Street in Woodstock on March 12, where they discovered a deceased man, as detailed in a news release issued on Tuesday. The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
Investigation Determines Suspicious Nature
In consultation with the Office of the Chief Coroner of Ontario, the death was deemed suspicious, prompting a thorough investigation involving multiple police units and partner agencies. Police noted that a second incident involving the same suspect was also examined during the probe, though no physical injuries were reported from that separate event.
Arrest and Charges
The suspect, a 20-year-old Woodstock resident, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. As of Tuesday, he remained in custody. Police confirmed that the accused and the deceased were known to each other.
