Former U.K. prime minister David Cameron is set to speak at the Energy Disruptors: UNITE conference in Calgary this coming September. The fifth edition of Canada's largest energy leadership summit will take place at the BMO Centre on Sept. 28 and 29, bringing together 3,000 founders, scientists, engineers, investors, and industry leaders from North America and 30 countries worldwide.
High-Profile Speakers
Alongside Cameron, the event will feature author Margaret Atwood, known for The Handmaid's Tale, and economist Tyler Cohen, creator of the blog Marginal Revolution. They are among approximately 100 speakers scheduled to address the summit.
Cameron's Focus on Sovereignty and Energy
Cameron, who served as prime minister from 2010 to 2016, will discuss renewable energy and share insights on leading through political division. He governed during two major sovereignty votes: Scotland's independence referendum in 2014 and the Brexit referendum in 2016. Graeme Edge, UNITE co-founder and CEO, noted that Cameron will talk about his energy record and how to lead through disruption and fragmentation during deep political divides.
Atwood and Cohen's Perspectives
Margaret Atwood will address the economic, technological, and cultural transformation of Canada. Tyler Cohen will discuss how the world needs to energize growth in artificial intelligence over the coming decade. Cohen emphasized the importance of exposing leaders to diverse perspectives in a polarized public discourse.
Summit Goals and Growth
Edge described UNITE as one of the fastest-growing energy events globally and a two-time recipient of Canada's Best Conference. He expects this Calgary summit to be their biggest yet. The event aims to bring together opposing views for respectful dialogue and disagreement, a key tenet of the summit.
Leaders from nuclear energy to batteries will discuss the future of energy. Additional speakers will be announced as the summit approaches. Early registration is available until June 23. For more information, visit www.energydisruptors.com.
