The town of Amherstburg has hit a home run with the unveiling of a new baseball-themed playground at Malden Centre Park, providing families with an engaging and inclusive recreational space. Located at 5460 County Rd. 20, the playground sits among five baseball diamonds, a pavilion, washrooms, and trail space, enhancing the park's existing sports facilities.
Grand Opening Celebration
Residents gathered on Tuesday morning for an official ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the opening of the new amenity. Town officials described the playground as a much-needed recreational area that will encourage both play and social connection within the community. The new equipment was designed to create an engaging and inclusive space for children and families, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the outdoors close to home.
Mayor's Remarks
Mayor Michael Prue emphasized the importance of accessible outdoor spaces for supporting local families and building community connections. “Having accessible park space in Malden Centre is essential to supporting active families and a connected community,” Prue said. “This new playground provides a welcoming place for residents to gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors close to home.”
Baseball-Themed Design
Mark Jones, regional director of New World Park Solutions, noted that the baseball theme was a natural fit for the playground, given its location among the five diamonds at Malden Centre Park. “This was a fun one,” Jones said. The playground features a rubberized surface designed to resemble a baseball diamond, accessible swings, and a variety of ground-level play components. Jones explained that the equipment was intentionally designed so more children could use the space simultaneously. “There’s something for everybody,” he said. “And when you see the kids playing on it ... that’s the best part.”
