Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) laid 72 charges during ATV Safety Week, which ran from June 8 to June 14, 2026. The enforcement campaign targeted unsafe riding practices across the province, including speeding, careless driving, and operating without proper safety equipment.
Enforcement Results
OPP officers conducted focused patrols on trails, roads, and off-road areas, resulting in 72 charges. Among the violations were 18 speeding tickets, 12 charges for operating an ATV without a helmet, and 8 for driving without a valid license. Officers also issued warnings and educational materials to riders.
Safety Emphasis
OPP Sergeant Mark Smith emphasized the importance of safety: "ATV riding is a popular activity, but it comes with risks. Our goal is to ensure everyone enjoys the outdoors responsibly." The campaign also highlighted the need for proper training and equipment.
The charges come as part of a broader effort to reduce injuries and fatalities related to ATV use. According to OPP data, there were 15 ATV-related deaths in Ontario in 2025, prompting increased enforcement.
Police remind riders to always wear helmets, follow speed limits, and avoid operating ATVs under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
