Ottawa Transit Services general manager Rick Leary stated that an independent audit of the New Ways to Bus initiative validates the agency’s recently announced action plan. Speaking alongside Mayor Mark Sutcliffe on May 12, 2026, Leary emphasized that the audit findings support the direction of the new strategy aimed at improving bus service reliability and efficiency.
The audit, conducted by an external firm, reviewed the implementation and performance of the New Ways to Bus network changes introduced earlier this year. According to Leary, the report confirms that the action plan addresses key issues identified during the rollout, including scheduling adjustments and route optimization.
“This audit validates the work we are doing and confirms that our action plan is the right path forward,” Leary said during a press conference. He added that the transit commission will continue to monitor progress and make further adjustments as needed based on passenger feedback and operational data.
Mayor Sutcliffe echoed Leary’s sentiments, noting that the city remains committed to providing reliable public transit. “We have listened to residents and are taking concrete steps to improve service,” Sutcliffe said. The action plan includes increased frequency on high-demand routes, better real-time tracking, and enhanced communication with riders.
OC Transpo has faced criticism since the launch of New Ways to Bus, with many commuters reporting longer wait times and overcrowded buses. The audit’s findings are expected to be presented in full at the next transit commission meeting.
