One person is dead and another is in hospital with serious injuries after a vehicle rolled into a ditch in Manitoba, according to RCMP. The single-vehicle crash occurred Sunday evening on a rural road.
Details of the incident
RCMP responded to the scene around 8:30 p.m. on June 21, 2026, after reports of a car in a ditch near the intersection of Highway 16 and Road 97 West, about 30 kilometres west of Portage la Prairie. Officers found the vehicle on its roof in a water-filled ditch. The driver, a 34-year-old man from the Rural Municipality of Portage la Prairie, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, a 30-year-old woman also from the area, was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigation ongoing
RCMP say speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash. An investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy has been scheduled. The names of the deceased and injured have not been released pending notification of next of kin. RCMP remind drivers to obey speed limits and never drive impaired.
