The Democratic Party's social media account made it clear on Wednesday that the old mantra of 'When they go low, we go high' is dead in the water, at least where Stephen Miller is concerned.
Background on the Incident
On Tuesday night, the party's social media account supported Texas Senate candidate James Talarico in his quest to defeat Texas Republican Ken Paxton in November. The message read: 'Fired up. Ready to go. It's time to take back Texas.' The post was a simple way to energize the base ahead of the November midterms.
However, Miller apparently saw it as an opportunity to troll Democrats with disinformation about Talarico, tweeting: 'The Democrats made history in Texas by nominating their first transgender senate candidate.'
Republican Attacks on Talarico
This is the latest attempt by Republicans to smear Talarico, whom experts say gives Democrats their best chance to win a Senate seat in Texas in decades. Previous GOP attacks have included the false suggestion that he is a vegan and that he took a class of school children on a field trip to the University of Texas when he was a teacher, which was somehow portrayed as 'creepy.'
The Democratic Response
The Democratic Party's social media account apparently had no time for Miller's misinformation and responded with a blunt, foul-mouthed reply: 'shut up you ugly fuck.' The post quickly went viral, with many users praising the aggressive approach.
One user commented: 'Glad to see "when they go low we go high" is over.' Another wrote: 'they gotta let me run this account, i would spend all day doing this.' A third added: 'not your father's Democratic Party.'
Another supporter said: 'This is the kind of aggression I want to see from what is supposed to be the opposition party. I want my Dems to be bringing blood feud style energy and hate to this administration. I want them MEAN.'
Conservative Backlash
Miller's wife, podcaster Katie Miller, fought back by identifying the woman supposedly behind the account and suggesting she only posted it because 'she's 30, unmarried with no kids.' She tweeted: 'Paulina Mangubat is who runs @TheDemocrats account. She's 30, unmarried with no kids. Put your name on it next time. This is what a sad, unhappy, female Liberal looks like. It's why Pew reports 50% of them have been diagnosed with a mental condition.'
Other conservatives also criticized the Democrats for using the same type of attacks that Republicans have employed for years. Benny Johnson tweeted: 'The official Democrat Party account just responded to Stephen Miller with: "Shut up you ugly f*ck." This is the party that spent years lecturing America about civility, unity, and healing. The party that cried when Trump was "mean" on Twitter.'
Dan McLaughlin sarcastically asked: 'Remind me, is this an FDR quote or a JFK quote?' The Daily Wire chimed in: 'More love, tolerance, and civility from the Dems.'
Public Reaction
One user perfectly summed up the situation: 'MAGA: "Fuck your feelings" Dems: "Fuck your feelings too" MAGA: "Noooooo, you cant do that"'
Miller continued his trolling by mocking a photo posted by the Democrats of Talarico eating barbecue, tweeting: 'He's transitioning.'
