The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have announced new charges against a 14-year-old youth in Manitoba who allegedly threatened a school. The teenager, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is facing additional counts related to the incident.
Details of the Charges
The RCMP stated that the youth was originally arrested in connection with a threat made against a school in Manitoba. Following further investigation, authorities have laid new charges, including uttering threats and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. The teen appeared in court via video link and has been remanded into custody.
In a separate but related case, a 15-year-old in Nova Scotia has also been charged after allegedly plotting a school attack. The two cases are not believed to be connected, but they highlight ongoing concerns about school safety across Canada.
Police Response
RCMP officials emphasized that they take all threats seriously and work diligently to ensure public safety. "We want to reassure parents and students that we are doing everything we can to prevent any harm," said a spokesperson. The investigation is ongoing, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
The youth in Manitoba is scheduled to appear in court again next week. Meanwhile, the Nova Scotia teen faces similar charges and is also in custody.
