Evonik and Imubit Launch AI Pilot in Singapore

HOUSTON, April 28, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Evonik and Imubit have initiated a collaborative pilot project to assess advanced industrial Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications at Evonik's facility in Singapore. This open-loop pilot is designed to evaluate model-driven insights that support operating strategy execution in a production environment.

Pilot Objectives and Focus

The pilot was launched by Evonik's Advanced Process Innovation team in Singapore. It aims to provide real-time insights into catalyst life and enhance collaboration between process and operations teams. The project tests Imubit's technology under actual operating conditions, focusing on the practical application of advanced AI in a live production setting.

Key Benefits

  • Real-time catalyst life monitoring
  • Improved team collaboration
  • Validation of AI models in real-world conditions

“At Evonik, we are exploring how advanced AI and deep learning can elevate operating strategies and unlock value across our production facilities,” said Norbert Steier, Head of Production & Technology at Evonik. “This pilot will help us determine if advanced modeling and decision support can assist our teams in improving established processes under dynamic conditions.”

Technology and Implementation

Under the pilot, Evonik engineers will work directly with Imubit to develop and validate nonlinear, data-driven models using plant data. These models reflect process behavior and operational constraints within Imubit's Deep Learning Process Control (DLPC) framework. They will evaluate “what-if” scenarios and quantify performance trade-offs among throughput, yield, stability, and energy-cost efficiency.

Open-Loop Insights

Insights generated during the pilot will be provided to operators and engineers in an open-loop format to support decision-making across shifts. The collaboration will also establish performance baselines and measurement approaches to objectively assess results.

“Complex industrial processes involve tradeoffs that can be difficult to assess in real time,” said Hieu Bui, SVP of Product at Imubit. “Our role is to provide fit-for-purpose, data-driven models that clarify those tradeoffs and support transparent evaluation. Starting in an open loop enables informed assessment before any consideration of further progression.”

Future Steps

The pilot is an evaluation effort. Any future deployment decisions will be made after reviewing results and aligning with Evonik's safety and operational governance processes.
