The city of Ottawa will host its second free public watch party for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Saturday, July 4, as Canada takes on Morocco in a round of 16 match at LeBreton Flats Park. The event, organized in partnership with Heritage Canada and the City of Ottawa, marks the furthest the Canadian men's national team has ever advanced in the tournament.
Previous Celebrations Set the Stage
On June 28, Canada defeated South Africa 1-0 in a tense group-stage match, sparking celebrations across the city. Sports bars were packed with passionate fans, and outside the Glebe Central Pub, supporters ran down the street waving large Canadian flags while cars honked in triumph. Drumming circles turned Bank Street into a lively party atmosphere.
Details of the Watch Party
The watch party at LeBreton Flats will begin at 11 a.m. on July 4, with the match kicking off at 1 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase on site. Admission is free and open to all ages, but entry will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis. For security, only small or clear bags no larger than a fanny pack will be allowed, and all bags will be inspected upon entry.
Official Statements and Significance
Marc Miller, Canada's Minister of Culture, said in a statement: “As the nation’s capital, Ottawa will join that shared national celebration, with the gathering at LeBreton Flats giving everyone in the National Capital Region a place to share the excitement, celebrate our team and stand together behind the Maple Leaf.” The previous public watch party was held at Lansdowne Park for the final group-stage match.
